ActiveMQ Queue configuration questions

Pretko, Walter A (Walt)

Good afternoon.

I am a new user of ActiveMQ but have a background as an IBM MQ administrator.

I have several questions I hope you can help me with.

ActiveMQ utilizes queues (and topics)  to hold messages.

Can these queues be configured similar to IBM MQ queues where I can specify certain parameters

such as:

Maxdepth

Max  Message length

Etc.

Also, does ActiveMQ utilize objects similar to IBM MQ channels?

Can those be configured as well?

Thank you.

Hi Walter,

About the destination, you can define specific parameters in
activemq.xml: that's the policy entries.
The policy entry defines the parameters to some destinations (queues or
topics). The "wildcard" < mean "any" destination.
For instance, memory limit allows you to define the max size of a
destination.
You can find more details here:

https://activemq.apache.org/per-destination-policies

About Channel, correct me if I'm wrong, but in WebSphere MQ there are
two kind of channels:

- the channel between two queues managers, so basically communication
between two brokers: that's possible in ActiveMQ using a network of
brokers. Several brokers can forward messages from a broker to another
in a network of brokers.
- the channel between client and broker, in ActiveMQ this is the
transport connectors. ActiveMQ supports several transport connectors
(JMS/TCP/OpenWire, WS, HTTP, STOMP, ...) and the client "lib" use a
connector.

I hope it helps.

If you need more details, please let me know.

Regards
JB
